Lights evolving within the ice

22/10/2009

I’ve always liked designed furniture. If not a madman, I would definitely be an interior designer. Or at least sales person in IKEA’s furniture department.

Here is one beautiful lamp which is produced by Design House Stockholm and is a re-issue of the 1996 design by Harri Koskinen. Both parts of the block lamp are hand cast and undergoes an extremely long cooling process to avoid cracking later on if exposed to strong temperature changes. The matt bulb shape is sand-blasted. The resulting effect is alike to placing a light globe in the freezer.

The idea of combining warm light with ice is just fascinating! And the lamp itself would be an excellent gift for someone who is living in Alaska.
